Innovation from Expertise
From physical chemistry and energy engineering to project finance, the expertise behind Ýmir Technologies represents a wide range of specialist knowledge and decades of professional experience. Our mission is not only offering technology, but also bringing the pieces of the puzzle together to create the most favorable value-proposition in each case.
Before co-founding Ýmir Technologies ten years ago, Sigurdur worked for 15 years in banking, risk management and project finance, notably leading the financing of a number of international environmental projects on behalf of the Nordic Investment Bank in Helsinki. Before starting his banking career, he studied philosophy, mathematics, history, poetics and economics at the University of Iceland, the University of Paris (VIII) and Moscow State University.
Before co-founding Ýmir Technologies, Asgeir worked as a marine engineer, ran an independent engineering and design consultancy and represented a major international equipment provider in Iceland. He also participated in the design and construction of many of Iceland's most significant fishmeal plants and sewage treatment plants.
Oddur is a professor of chemistry at the University of Iceland and a co-founder of Ýmir Technologies, as well as CRI, a company providing industrial-scale loops for converting waste CO2 streams into methanol. After earning his PhD from the Free University in Berlin he worked in industrial and technological research in Japan and the US and as the QC manager of a drug company.
Ari comes to Ýmir with more than twenty years of experience in the green energy industry and innovative circular solutions: Leading and implementing large-scale projects in the field of geothermal energy, as well as the operation of power plants, piping of district heating system, portable water system and pumping stations. Most recently, Ari worked for 5 years at HS Orka as the project manager on a large research project where he led the drilling of Iceland’s deepest geothermal well and worked as a power plant manager at HS Orka's geothermal plants.
After graduating from the Marine Engineering College of Iceland, Saemundur served as chief engineer aboard ocean liners and fishing trawlers as well as working in a mechanical workshop. He lived in Denmark for a decade before moving back to Iceland and joining Ýmir Technologies in 2012.
Ingolfur is self-taught in CAD software and creates working drawings and full technical drawings under the supervision of the design director. Before joining Ýmir he obtained a year of hands-on experience at a landfill site working for SORPA, the greater Reykjavik area municipal waste management association.
After graduating from Reykjavik University in 2015 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Kristinn worked in the fishmeal technology industry before he joined Arctic Trucks, engineering performance modifications for 4x4 trucks. In 2019, Kristinn moved to Vancouver, Canada and completed a Master's degree in Engineering Leadership. After moving back to Iceland and testing the waters for a year with his own entrepreneurship, Kristinn joined ÝMIR Technologies. When Kristinn is not working, he is either lost somewhere in the Icelandic wilderness or planning his next adventure.
Graduating with a chemical engineering degree, Sam worked for 8 years in oil refining both in Australia and London. In 2016 he moved to Reykjavík to complete a masters degree in sustainable energy engineering at Reykjavík University. Since graduating Sam has joined the team at Ýmir Technologies.
